How are the signs mounted?
The signs are supplied with screws, plugs, washers, caps and full mounting instructions. To install your sign:

1. Position the sign on the wall and mark the drill hole
2. Remove the sign and drill holes in the wall using a 5/32^nd bit.
3. Thread the screws through the plastic washers and screw the
      sign to the wall. Use a manual screwdriver to do this and do
      NOT over-tighten the screws - (you could crack the slate).
4   Lastly, pop the protective black plastic caps over the heads of
      the screws.


What are the signs made of?
The signs are cut out of slabs of pure natural slate. We use a dense, fine-grained metamorphic rock that is especially suitable for the Canadian environment since it resists extreme temperatures without flaking. The colour and texture of the slate results from its natural aging process in the ground and varies slightly from slab to slab.

How are the designs carved into the stone?
The process is known as ‘sand carving’. The design is composed on a computer and transferred onto a photosensitive rubber masking which is then exposed and adhered to the slate.

The design is carved by a jet of very fine abrasive sand that is worked over the surface of the sign at high pressure. The masking protects those areas of the slate that are not to be engraved at the same time as it allows sand to cut into the slate where it’s required.

Colour is then applied to the recessed areas, the sign is drilled, (so it can be mounted), and finally the surface of the sign is given a clear protective coating. This entire process is done by hand.

What is your guarantee?
We will not be liable for any breakage or damage that may occur after delivery, nor are we responsible for the variations in surface texture that are characteristic of this entirely natural material. But our signs are fully warranted against all manufacturing defects, and if any significant degradation of colour or materials should occur within two years from the date of purchase – (beyond what one might reasonably expect from a natural material) - we will replace the product without charge.
